Where can I find and apply for EIU study abroad scholarships?

Do I need to have a certain GPA to qualify for WWSA scholarships?

Yes, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Keep in mind that many departments and scholarship programs have different requirements.

What can William V. Weber Program in Study Abroad grants cover?

If a student is awarded a scholarship, they can receive up to $2,000. It will not usually pay for the entire cost of the trip, but can be applied toward the trip in any way the student wishes.

When are scholarship applications due for study abroad?

The deadline to apply for study abroad programs and scholarships always fall on the same day:

Spring semester 2024 programs- October 28th, 2023
Spring break 2024 faculty-led programs - October 28th, 2023
Summer 2024 faculty-led programs- February 11th, 2024
Summer semester 2024 programs- February 11th, 2024
Fall semester 2024 programs - March 4th, 2024


Who do I ask for scholarship recommendations?

Faculty, staff, or supervisors are most common. You may not ask a family member or the faculty leader of your program. A good letter will speak about your work ethic, your character, and your plans to go abroad. Prepare your chosen reference by providing a copy of your resume & some details on your study abroad program. All recommendations must be submitted through eiu.academicworks.com 

What can I do to strengthen my study abroad scholarship application?

Give yourself plenty of time to write your essay and ask for recommendations. Make sure you read the application and meet all of the qualifications. Explain why you are studying abroad, and the impact it will have (including life after graduation, personal development, and future career). Be sure to answer all questions thoroughly and have somebody read over any essays to proofread them.

Can I use my study abroad scholarship(s) to pay my financial commitment deposit?

Since scholarships are disbursed at the start of your study abroad program, students are not able to use William V. Weber Program in Study Abroad grants/scholarships to pay their commitment deposits.
