Program Highlights

CyprusExchange5

Northern Cyprus is located on the northern side of the island of Cyprus, which can be found in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Even though Turkey has recognized North Cyprus has an independent country, the UN and EU recognizes the island as a whole country, the Republic of Cyprus. The island is located in the middle of the continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa—all of which can be accessed with ease from Northern Cyprus, which is extremely convenient for regional travel. Famagusta, a city in North Cyprus, was once a famous and rich city with architecture from the Venetian period. However, it has lost none of it charm and historical importance, and visitors are once again rediscovering the magic that can be found in Famagusta. At EMU, you have a wide range of departments to choose your courses from.

Coming to study in Northern Cyprus at EMU is an exciting experience with opportunities to broaden your academic, social, and cultural horizons. The value of cultural student exchange is an experience of a lifetime.

The mixing of cultures and backgrounds provides young people with an unforgettable awareness and lifelong appreciation of each other. Experience North Cyprus, and discover what others only dream of. EMU invites you to spend a semester or an academic year in one of the most dynamic, culturally diverse societies in the world. Explore exciting new customs, social values, trends, and world-renowned technology as you bask in the energy and warmth of the country.

Student Life

The Turkish Cypriot people are not only warm-hearted and welcoming but also very generous. They are friendly, helpful, and will invite the visitor into their home, not just for cay (tea) or a cup of coffee, but also share whatever food they may have. They have a courtesy hardly found elsewhere and enthusiasm in the company of new-found friends.

Even though Turkish is the predominant language, Cypriots have their own version. Cyprus was a British colony for many years; so, it is most likely that you will hear some English words when people are speaking their own dialect of Turkish. Many Cypriots have returned to the island after living in Britain, Australia, or America for many years; so, English is widely spoken and understood by many Cypriots. The locals are harmlessly inquisitive. Don't be shocked if a total stranger asks you where you are from, about your family, and where you live, and can identify the nearest landmark to your house. It is quite normal for a shopkeeper to offer you a coffee or a cold drink. Etiquette says that it is not polite to leave before the coffee cup gets cold. It's not surprising that one of the most well known Turkish expressions is “A single cup of coffee is remembered with respect for forty years”.
