The University of South Wales is home to over 1,500 international students, so you will not be alone. Most classes are structured such that one course (or module as it is called) lasts for the entire year. At South Wales, you will study with other Welsh and international students in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The University of South Wales is located in the small town of Treforest. Treforest is only mintues from the larger Pontypridd and just north of the Welsh capital, Cardiff. Treforest is just 12 miles north of Cardiff, so you can get there in a quick 20-minute train ride. World class theatres, museums, galleries, and great football (soccer) matches are all within easy reach of Treforest. Glamorgan's location offers the best of both worlds: a small town feel with big city opportunities available at your doorstep.
"Lovely area, with great access to travel, a variety of social and entertainment venues. Diverse and a great experience."
—Samantha Sauer, an EIU student who studied at Universtiy of South Wales in Fall 2009 and Spring 2010.
The EIU exchange program with the University of South Wales allows students to take classes within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
only. Each course is called a "module". Full modules last the entire academic year, while half modules last for one semester.

After Your Trip:
at EIU to fulfill your senior-seminar
The Universtiy will provide an orientation session for you upon your arrival to campus. This is a great way to learn about the school, your classes, and life in Wales. You will find a variety of things to do in and near campus. University of South Wales has its own discos and hosts live bands, cabaret, and comedy groups to entertain students. It also has its own nightclub, Shafts.
Cardiff is a very cosmopolitan city and where many South Wales students go for social and cultural activities, sporting events, and great food (Cardiff is known for its large number of international restaurants). Since it is so close to South Wales' campus, you will probably find yourself on the train to Cardiff often.
Travel to other areas of the UK, such as London, can be done easily by train, and there are very affordable flights from the UK to other areas of Europe.
The University of South Wales has on-campus housing
in the form at Glamorgan Court
—each room has an ensuite bathroom; six rooms share kitchen and dining space
As part of your housing plan, you can choose to have self-catered (you cook your own food) or catered (on-campus meal plan) housing. Each is available as an option for either residence hall.
If you would prefer to live off-campus, the Accommodation Office at South Wales provides information on its web site
about obtaining off-campus housing.
**You are responsible for making all housing arrangements and payments directly to the University of South Wales.**
