Program Overview

Your Advanced Liberal Arts program in Barcelona lasts a full semester. and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds who have Spanish language skills. You will enroll in CIEE courses and host institution courses delivered in Spanish. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Spanish culture. Live and learn in Barcelona!

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Barcelona will open doors for you to explore Spain’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Discover the Gràcia neighborhood, famous for its bohemian and artistic style and streets filled with color and culture
  • Hike the Carretera de les Aigües for amazing views over the city
  • Dive into the captivating art of flamenco at one of Barcelona's renowned tablaos

CIEE Barcelona: Study near Barcelona’s main square, Plaça Catalunya, on a beautiful pedestrian passageway, only minutes from cafés, restaurants, and important cultural attractions. CIEE Barcelona features classrooms, a student lounge, conference rooms, and charming 19th-century terraces where students can relax outdoors.

University of Barcelona: The University of Barcelona (UB), established in 1450, is a prestigious public research university located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is one of the largest universities in Spain, with over 76,000 students and 106 departments. UB is renowned for its commitment to quality education and research, reflected in its high rankings and extensive transfer activities. 

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
