Program Overview

With 22 million Chinese-speaking people to share the city with, there’s no better place to hone your intermediate or advanced language skills than Beijing. Spend the semester immersed in the Chinese language at CIEE’s prestigious partner school, Peking University (PKU). All courses are complemented with CIEE co-curricular activities focused on language application and excursions designed to help students understand China’s capital city.

In addition to expanding your language skills, there will be many opportunities to explore the vibrant city of Beijing. We encourage all students to submerge themselves in the local culture. Consider spending the afternoon exploring Jingshan Park or take a day trip to the Great Wall of China with your new friends and peers abroad.

Excursions & Activities

  • Visit fascinating sites loaded with history, like Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.
  • Head out of the city for a long weekend to an alluring destination like Xi’an, Hangzhou, or Nanjing.
  • Try something new with a class in calligraphy, painting, seal carving, or martial arts.
  • Keep your language skills polished even when you travel, thanks to Chinese students who come along to help you practice.

Projects

  • Language Tutoring. To ensure progress in fluency, students are offered tutorials and regular small group Language and Culture Practicum sessions. Tutors practice conversation and help with homework.
  • Expert Talk Series: Regular lectures in English by experts in their field.
